Moving to a foreign city should be a pleasurable and exciting experience. Unfortunately obstacles like not knowing the language of the country or not knowing where to look for answers to basic questions can be quite frustrating and stand in the way of you making this city a place you can call home.

Small things such as knowing how to go about recycling or understanding public transport are taken for granted in the places we grew up but are dealt with somewhat differently in the Netherlands. Our aim is to take this uncertainty from you and replace it with a profound basis of information.

By providing information that helps you sort out the small things in life we strive towards making Maastricht more than just a city you came to for University but a city that you’d like to call home for as long as you decide to stay.

You’ll soon realize that after having understood how these trivial things work in Maastricht you’ll inevitably have more free time to invest in things that are actually fun. The second segment of this project covers these fun aspects of community life by informing you about events and activities that are worth checking out in Maastricht.

We advocate a correspondence between our clients and our team that is friendly and open so that the information provided is without exception up to date and to the point.

The set-up

The mymaastricht project is a student-run initiative for students. The idea for this web-based information portal originated in early 2014 when representatives of the municipality and Maastricht’s educational institutions noticed a lack in information being provided to their (international) student population. In August 2014 the project was picked up and executed by a group of students under supervision of a Maastricht University employee. Six months later, on March 3rd 2015, the project was launched and has since undergone constant development. We collaborate with a plethora of local organisations to ensure the highest quality of content and present a complete overview of what the city of Maastricht has to offer.

Since November 2015 the mymaastricht project has been officially registered as a ‘Stichting’, or foundation. Representatives of all three stakeholders (i.e. Maastricht University, Zuyd Hogeschool and Gemeente Maastricht) form the project’s ‘Bestuur’, or board, which oversees the activities of our foundation. The operational aspects of the website are coordinated by an employee of Maastricht University and executed by a team of three students. To find out more about who is involved in the project and what their individual responsibilities are you can consult our ‘The Team’-section. Beside the ‘Bestuur’ and the team of students, the ‘redactie commissie’, or editorial committee, gives the foundation advice on technicalities. Furthermore, it ensures a constant expansion of services benefiting the student population of the major educational institutions of Maastricht.

We collaborate closely and one of our colleagues will welcome you and assist you at the reception of the Student Services Center (SSC, located at Bonnefantenstraat 2, 6211KL, Maastricht) from Monday to Friday from 13.00 until 17.00. If you are not a student at UM step by the Holland Expat Centre South. They help every international in the Maastricht Region with all kind of issues.
