UM Cares is organising a lunch for all informal carers, whether students or staff, at Maastricht University. Thursday, 10 November, is the national ‘Dag van de Mantelzorg’ in the Netherlands. Mantelzorger can be translated as informal carer. The word is made out of mantel, meaning coat, and zorger, meaning carer. To be a mantelzorger is to embrace others with caring needs wholeheartedly.
Do you selflessly care for a loved one, a family member, a friend, or your neighbour for approximately eight hours a week? If so, according to the CBS (Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek) then you too are a mantelzorger.
Oftentimes, the efforts and actions of mantelzorgers are taken for granted, erasing the reality of everyday caring. UM Cares About You – Lunch is an event during which we shed light and acknowledge UM’s mantelzorgers. This lunch takes place at two locations, in both Randwyck (Universiteitssingel 40) and the city centre (Tongersestraat 53), from 12:00 till 13:15. During the lunch, you will be able to mingle and exchange experiences.
To celebrate, appreciate, and bring together all of those who care, we kindly invite you to register and mention your dietary wishes. Lunch will be vegetarian.
