🌟Academic Events Committee presents: A movie screening in honor of the international upcoming day of reflection on the 1994 genocide against the Tusti in Rwanda that occurred between April 7 and July 19 during the Rwandan civil war 🌟 During this period of 100 days more than 800,000 Rwandans were brutally slaughtered by fellow citizens in a state-led campaign targeting the Tutsi ethnic group. About 75% of the Tutsi population died in the mass killings. 🎬Movie: Hotel Rwanda 📍Location: UCM Lecture hall 📆Date: 17 April 🕐Time: 19:00 🎬Movie: The 2004 film “Hotel Rwanda” recounts the efforts of hotelier Paul Rusesabagina to save his family and others during the civil war in Rwanda. The film was inspired by what actually occurred inside Hotel des Mille Collines in the capital, Kigali where 1,268 Rwandans, both Tutsis and Hutus, were saved from forces waiting beyond its walls.Hotel Rwanda is a harrowing portrayal of a country losing itself in chaos as the international community looked away, ⚠️Trigger warnings⚠️ Please be advised that the film contains themes of extreme violence, including references to the killing of children, beatings, shooting and use of machetes occurs throughout.
