Car parking in Maastricht

locations

The city centre of Maastricht prioritises cyclists and pedestrians and therefore there are not that many parking spots on the streets. You will have to buy a ticket from the parking meter or in the parking app. The closer to the city centre you park, the more you can expect to pay. Maastricht has several Park + Walk and Park + Ride locations close to the city centre. This option is cheaper than parking in the city. Find where you can park here

In suburban neighbourhoods of Maastricht you also have to pay to park your car unless you have a resident’s parking permit. These districts are clearly marked by several street signs.

Paying

In most areas of the city, you can pay through an app or a parking metre. The parking metres accept both cash and debit card payments, but credit cards won’t work! Regardless of whether you pay through the parking meter or app, you will have to type in your license plate number and the information will be registered digitally. Therefore you won’t need to insert a parking ticket into your windshield.

fines

If you don’t pay for your parking spot or if you didn’t pay the full amount, you may receive a parking fine. If you have parked incorrectly (e.g. without a permit in a permit holder space or in a disabled parking space), you may receive a fine from the Centraal Justitieel Incassobureau (CJI). More information about paying CJI fines in the Netherlands.

If you disagree with your parking fine, you can file an appeal within six weeks. Note that you always need to pay your fine first. Failing to do so results in significantly higher fines. The municipality of Maastricht has handed over the job of handling parking fines to Cannock Chase. You must pay the parking fine to them.  You can challenge a parking ticket on Cannock’s website if you think it has been given to you unfairly. Make sure to do this within 6 weeks from the date on the penalty charge notice from Cannock.
