How to Survive (and Enjoy) INKOM: Tips from Someone Who’s Been There

INKOM is one of those weeks you’ll remember for a long time. It’s fun, chaotic, social, and slightly exhausting. Whether you’re a party animal, a chill introvert, or somewhere in between, there’s something for everyone. Here’s what I wish someone had told me before my first INKOM.

1.Have a little plan before the madness start

Before INKOM kicks off, take 10 minutes to check the schedule and stalk the organisations that will be there. Pick a few you’re curious about so you’re not just wandering around aimlessly. Think of it as making a “vibe wishlist” rather than a strict to-do list.

2. Don’t skip the info market

At the start of INKOM, there’s an info market where you can explore everything the city has to offer – from student organisations to sports clubs to volunteering opportunities. It’s a great chance to see what’s out there and start planning your student life in Maastricht. And hey, make sure to stop by our stand and say hi! We’re happy to answer any questions and help you get settled.

4. Don’t panic if your INKOM group disappears

On day one, you’ll probably be in a group. On day two, half of them might vanish. That happened to me. Everyone gets curious and starts exploring different things. I ended up randomly talking to three other girls and we basically adopted each other for the rest of the week. Some of the best moments come from those random encounters, so stay open.

5. You’re allowed to skip the parties

Yes, there are parties. Lots of them. But you don’t have to go to all of them. One night I was just too tired to party, so we went to a comedy night instead. It was honestly iconic. Don’t feel bad for choosing sleep, snacks, or laughter over strobe lights.

6. INKOM is a marathon, not a sprint
You will get tired. You might lose your voice. You’ll definitely feel like you’ve walked the entire city twice. I’m just warning you now: by day four, you’ll be running on caffeine and vibes. I’d recommend that you take this into account when packing. Bring some medicine, comfy shoes, snacks, and whatever else keeps you functioning.
