No student information platform is complete without a guide about nightlife and parties. Whether you’re into clubbing, karaoke, or alternative underground parties, Maastricht has something for everyone. We’ve compiled a list for you containing the different spots and events, categorized by venues and music genres to help you best navigate and enjoy your student life in Maastricht.
If you’re planning a night out in Maastricht, there are three key spots you need to know about: Markt, Platielstraat and Complex. Each of these areas has its own vibe.
Let’s start with Markt, where you’ll find three neighboring clubs: Roto, Cafe Defile, and FM Kaffee. These clubs are open most days of the week and if you’re in it for the long haul, they stay open until approximately 6 a.m.
Just a short walk away, Platielstraat is another central spot for nightlife. Two of the street’s early stars, Van Bommel and Basilica, transform from bars during the day to clubs at night. They’ve got a laid-back vibe but are great for kicking off your night. For something a bit more energetic, Cliniq and Cavo are the go-tos. Cliniq is usually a 21+ venue, but their Thursday student nights are always packed and super popular. Cavo, being a literal underground cave , gives you a much more intimate, exclusive vibe.
The main difference between the two areas? Markt clubs tend to attract a mostly Dutch crowd, whereas Platielstraat is a melting pot of both Dutch and international students, so you’re bound to meet people from all over the world.
Another venue we think that you need to check out is D’n Himmel. This place is a bit more hidden than the others, but it’s where many student organisations throw their parties. You’ll definitely end up here at some point if you’re a student, and it’s always a good time.
If you’re in the mood for some Friday night karaoke, Peters’ Irish Pub is the place to be. It’s a great venue to unwind and sing along with friends after a long week. This costs 2 euro to enter and we recommend you get there early because it is a highly popular spot.
For the bigger, more intense party vibes, Muziekgieterij is where it’s at. Right next to the Lumiere movie theater, it’s one of the largest venues in town. With multiple rooms, you can hop from a student party to a techno rave or even a live concert all in one night. It’s definitely the place to go when you want an unforgettable night out.
But if you ask anyone about the ultimate clubbing experience in Maastricht, they’ll tell you about Complex. Located under the Wilhelminabrug, it’s one of the largest clubs in the Netherlands, hosting everything from techno nights to reggaeton and the biggest student parties around. Complex is open every Friday and Saturday, but don’t be surprised to find special student parties mid-week, too. This is the place where the best nights in Maastricht happen, hands down.
If you’re anything like me and have a favorite music genre, don’t worry — Maastricht’s nightlife has something for everyone. Whether you’re into techno, Afrobeats, or rap, this city’s party scene covers all the bases. Personally, as a proud reggaeton girly, I’ve got a few must-follow Instagram pages for you: @pegaito_event, @strictlyreggaeton, @thecircoloco, and @pina.tour. These organizers throw parties all over the Netherlands, so keep an eye out for their next event in Maastricht!
For those into other genres, Maastricht won’t disappoint. If Afrobeats, rap, R&B, or hip-hop is more your thing, check out Party with Attitude and Bad Habits for unforgettable vibes. For Afrobeats-specific events, AfrocityNL and Afrovibz.nl are the top organizers in town.
And if you’re craving a techno or alternative scene, LBB (Landbouwbelang) is the place to be. Known for its underground techno events and lively jam sessions, LBB is where you go when you want to break away from the mainstream and dive into something a little more raw and authentic. No matter your genre, Maastricht has a party waiting for you!
No guide to Maastricht’s nightlife is complete without mentioning Heartbeat Events, the biggest party organizer in the city. Started by two passionate students, Heartbeat now hosts various events at Complex twice a month. From reggaeton parties to throwback events under an inflatable moon, their events are diverse and always packed with energy. Whether you’re into Latin beats, techno, or EDM, Heartbeat ensures there’s something for everyone.
Maastricht’s nightlife offers something for every taste. Whether you’re a fan of techno at LBB, reggaeton at Complex, or karaoke at Peters’ Irish Pub, this city will keep you dancing into the early hours. Don’t miss out on the diverse range of events and enjoy your student life!
