Valentine’s Day in Maastricht: Date Spot Ideas for Students by Students

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and if you’re celebrating in Maastricht, you might be wondering where to take your date. Whether you’re planning something romantic, fun, or casual with a friend, we’ve got you covered with some of our favourite recommendations in town—handpicked by students, for students.

Romantic Dinner Dates

There’s nothing quite like a cozy dinner to set the mood for Valentine’s Day. As an Italian myself, I’m definitely biased when it comes to recommending Italian restaurants! But trust me, these are the ones worth going to.

  • Bancale 61
    • In my opinion, it is the best pizza in town (though Piano B comes close). It has a small and rustic vibe that makes it feel truly authentic – this costs a little bit more than your average pizza in town and you have to bring your own alcohol if you’d like to have some wines or beers, but we think everyone needs to experience it at least once.
  • Da Geppetto
    • Located in the heart of Maastricht, offers great food in a lively atmosphere, striking a nice balance between casual and fancy – pretty affordable and plenty of seats in case you’re making a last minute booking!
  • Tivoli
    • This is extra special, with warm lighting and an intimate setting that makes it a top choice for a classic romantic evening.
  • Toscanella Apuana
    • This is another must-visit, but make sure to book in advance—it’s always busy for a reason. Having won several awards for the best Italian food in the last few years, it’s a top-tier choice if you ask us.
  • Tokyoto and Kaishu
    • If you’re in the mood for Japanese cuisine, these are great choices with a variety of dishes beyond just sushi.

Cute & Cozy Breakfast or Afternoon Dates

Maybe you want to skip the traditional dinner date thing and opt for something more chill. A morning or afternoon date can be just as romantic—and sometimes even better because it feels more spontaneous and fun.

  • The Living Room
    • One of the best places for breakfast or brunch, with a warm and cozy atmosphere that makes it feel like a home away from home.
  • DARQ Maastricht
    • If you and your date love chocolate this is a must-visit for great pastries, coffee, and chocolate treats.
  • Bagels & Beans
    • A cute and casual breakfast spot with great coffee and delicious bagels.
  • Piece of Cake
    • If you’re looking for something a little fancier but still cozy this is perfect for a high tea date.

Outdoor & Adventure Dates

For those who like to mix things up and do something a little different, there are plenty of fun date ideas beyond the typical dinner setting.

  • Takeaway pizza and picnic on the city wall
    • One of my favorite options is overlooking the Maas—simple, romantic, and budget-friendly.
  • Picnic in Sint Pieter
    • For a greener setting and fresh air
  • Jump Maastricht
    • For something even more out of the box, why not head for a trampoline date?

No matter what your vibe is, Maastricht has something for everyone. Whether you’re going for a romantic dinner, a cozy brunch, or an adventurous day out, I hope this guide helps you plan the perfect Valentine’s Day date. Happy Valentine’s Day! ❤️
