Drug Use

If you or someone you know decides to use drugs, it’s important that you are aware of what you are consuming and what the possible consequences are.

Rat poison and other chemicals have been found in certain drugs. One reoccuring substance is XTC, which appears in high dossage on the dutch drug market and significantly raises the risks of drugs. Further, according to experts, the pollution of dutch cocaine has significantly increased in the last years. You can use a drug test kit to determine whether or not your drugs contain undesirable substances. These kits can be obtained at local head shops, smart shops or online. However, be aware that those kits usually only show if the tested substance is indeed XTC or amphetamine and they fail to show dossage or pollution levels, which means they aren’t showing you some of the most essential details!

If you don’t want to spend any money, look at the official government website which lists testing locations. The nearest one to Maastricht is in Heerlen. On another website you can find lists of tested drugs and warnings about specific ones that have been judged as extra dangerous.

Remember that there is no safe way to take drugs, but testing the quality before consuming is still a smart move.

If you want to know more about attitudes and statistics related to drug use in the Netherlands you can visit the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction.
